Lughnasad

The days are getting a bit shorter, but it’s still too hot for me.  Contrary to popular belief, we do actually have seasons in California, you just have to pay attention to see them.  Little signs that Summer is half over?  The apple farm is open, the pumpkin patch is planted, and the corn maze is sprouting.

At Lughnasad we celebrate the first of three harvest.  Peaches, plums, apricots, raspberries, blackberries, zucchini, tomato – it’s time to eat fresh, sun-soaked food and give thanks!  The lambs have been weaned, the foals are half way there, and the cows have been calving. The first burst of growth is over, and some brave souls are already canning and making preserves.  Bake some bread and enjoy the bounty and warmth while it lasts – Fall is just around the corner…

Thank you to Somerset Farm & Dale’s Nursery for allowing me to photograph the farm stand & garden.
